Headaches in St. Charles IL Caused by Vitamin D Deficiency
I can't fix everything. Most of my patients in St. Charles IL with chronic headaches experience relief with treatment. Despite our best efforts, some still have headaches. A study published this week (see the link below) noted that vitamin D deficiency is linked to a higher risk of headaches.
If you have headaches, ask your doctor to test your vitamin D levels. Pay no attention to the lab normal. The old normal was more than 30 nmol/L. They have come out with a new normal that is 20 nmol/L. Results from the study say you should be shooting for a number above 40 nmol/L.
There are also several studies which say that vitamin D3 supplements work well to increase your blood levels, and vitamin D2 does not. What this means for you; get the vitamin D3 from your health food store, or your chiropractor. If you get a prescription from your doctor, it will be vitamin D2. That is the one that doesn't work. (Yes, crazy but true.)
Stay healthy my friend,

Low Vitamin D Levels Increases the Risk for Chronic Headaches
Alan R. Jacobs, MD
"In those with frequent headache, the average serum vitamin D concentration was 38.3 nmol/L; while in those without frequent headache, the average vitamin D concentration was 43.9 nmol/L.
Those in the lowest serum vitamin D quartile had 113% higher odds for frequent headache compared with those in the highest quartile.
The authors concluded that low serum vitamin D concentrations are associated with a markedly higher risk for frequent headaches in men."
